The Sales Manager leads the Hutch Ford sales department and is directly responsible for the performance of its sales team. This role is centered on delivering a fair, transparent, and timely buying experience while driving unit sales, gross profit, and inventory management standards. The Sales Manager also administers Ford factory-sponsored sales programs, oversees compliance with state sales licensing and advertising requirements, and reports directly to the General Manager of Hutch Ford.

Compensation$65,000+ base per year plus commission and bonus tied to unit sales volume, gross profit, and CSI performance
Compensation is weighted more heavily toward performance-based commission than fixed-base management roles, consistent with current Hutch Ford sales leadership pay practice and industry benchmarks.
Purpose StatementWe're looking for a proven leader and producer to lead and grow a profitable, customer-focused sales department. This role directs the sales team, ensures every customer receives a fair, transparent, and timely buying experience, and maintains the volume, gross profit, and compliance standards required to support Hutch Ford's reputation and results. Strong performers with a track record of results are rewarded accordingly.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, staff, and develop the sales team: hire, train, motivate, counsel, and monitor the performance of all salespeople; direct sales staffing and training to build a high-performing, customer-focused team
  • Champion the customer buying experience: ensure every customer receives fair, transparent, and timely treatment from initial contact through delivery, minimizing friction and building trust throughout the process
  • Build lasting customer relationships through New Owner Clinics and consistent follow-up, driving repeat and referral business
  • Establish and drive annual and monthly objectives for unit sales, gross profit, expenses, and operating profit; monitor salesperson productivity against these goals
  • Manage new and used vehicle inventory: order and acquire inventory, and oversee merchandising, display, and promotion to maximize turn and profitability
  • Administer and monitor Ford factory-sponsored sales programs and incentives to maximize dealership participation and benefit
  • Analyze market data and sales reports to identify customer needs and volume potential, and develop sales campaigns that support dealership goals
  • Control department expenditures in line with the approved budget and report performance to the General Manager
  • Serve as liaison between the sales department and other departments (F&I, service, parts) to ensure a seamless customer experience across the buying journey
  • Ensure compliance with state sales licensing requirements and applicable dealer advertising and sales regulations
  • Attend management meetings and maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times
  • Other duties as assigned by the General Manager
Performance Expectations
  • Meet or exceed unit sales, gross profit, and operating profit targets
  • Achieve dealership customer satisfaction (CSI) targets for the sales process
  • Maintain salesperson productivity, training compliance, and team retention within acceptable range
  • Maximize factory incentive program participation and benefit capture
  • Maintain accurate, compliant sales documentation and licensing
  • Support staff retention and development within the sales department
Required Skills
  • Strong leadership and staff management skills, with the ability to hire, train, and hold salespeople accountable
  • Customer-first mindset with strong negotiation and relationship-building skills
  • Working knowledge of new and used vehicle inventory management and merchandising
  • Financial acumen, including budgeting, gross profit management, and department reporting
  • Working knowledge of Ford factory sales programs and incentive structures
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing deals, documentation, and compliance
  • Proficiency with, or ability to quickly learn, the dealership's CRM and inventory management systems
Qualifications
  • Equivalent combination of education and automotive sales experience
  • Four or more years of automotive sales experience, including prior supervisory or sales management experience preferred
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Proven track record of sales performance and team leadership
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume, fast-paced dealership sales environment
Physical RequirementsThis role involves regular time on the sales floor and vehicle lot, including standing, walking, and occasional outdoor exposure to weather conditions while assisting with vehicle display, merchandising, and customer interactions.
